5 Instagram Accounts You Should Follow
I run an Instagram account for the music blog Alternative Control and it’s turned me into an IG addict. Since the account is supposed to be for a specific purpose, I’m constantly resisting the urge to post selfies and pictures of my cats – but I can still spend hours thumbing through everyone else’s pics. Here are a few of my favorite accounts:
Describing herself as a “wordslut and vagabond,” Kim Kelly is actually a well-respected metal journalist who works for the likes of Iron Fist, Pitchfork, Metalsucks, and National Public Radio. (Yep, she covers extreme music for them – read her interview w/ Mike Williams of Eyehategod here.) She has also roadied for bands like Orange Goblin and Saint Vitus, so her IG feed has a lot of tour shots. And if you’re into those ear spacer thingies, Kelly is your girl.
Josh is a regular Connecticut dude who likes metal and posts some pretty funny shit. I think we wake up around the same time, because I look at IG while I’m eating breakfast (told you I was an addict) and he’s usually just put up some hilariously obscene meme that makes me choke on my eggs. He also shares a lot of the music he’s listening to, both local and more widely-known.
Another Connecticut local, Renato Ghio must be a professional photographer in real life. He’s big on #cloudporn and his mid-air shots of birds are breathtaking. Old buildings, forest scenes, close-ups of bicycle chains, and the occasional cat portrait make for an artistic and creative IG feed.
Um, do I really have to explain this one? Hot, mostly-naked chicks with crazy tattoos, hair, and piercings — I don’t need a subscription, just seeing these girls in their undies is enough for me. The only thing that bothers me about following Suicide Girls is that I keep getting older… But they stay the same age.
I’ve been a National Geographic fan since I was old enough to read, even though I mostly just looked at the pictures. My grandma buys me a subscription every year for Christmas, so it was like Christmas all over again when I found Nat Geo on Instagram. Their photography is mind-blowing – from gecko feet to mariachi bands to Congolese child soldiers, this IG account will transport you to a different world with the flick of a thumb.
