2. Kite Runner by Khaled Hosseini
One of the best books I’ve ever read, The Kite Runner is a book I recommend that everyone reads. I read it as a freshman in high school, but due to the mature subjects of rape, war, and abandonment, I believe I would understand it and retain it so much more as an adult. The book details the life of Amir, a young boy living in the Taliban-ruled Wazir Akbar Khan district of Kabul, Afghanistan, and his life growing up during such a tumultuous time. It’s a story that everyone deserves to hear, and will wreck you emotionally like no other book has.
