Cue up Brass Bonanza. It’s all happening. This is not a drill. The Hartford Whalers are back!

Well, kinda.

The Carolina Hurricanes announced on Thursday that they will wear green and blue Hartford Whalers uniforms for a game against the Boston Bruins this season on December 23rd.

This is obviously very exciting for many people here in Connecticut. Also for fans throughout the country. Hell, Whalers branded NHL gear is STILL some of the highest selling NHL merchandise. It will forever be one of the best sports logos ever stitched on clothing.

The obvious question a lot of Whalers die hards have is “why now?”. Why twenty years of  Carolina Hurricanes ownership pretending the Whalers fanbase never existed. Nothing but silence from The Canes for two decades and now in 2018 they choose to “honor their history” with this? Seems fishy (pun intended).

Could this be a sign of things to come?!?! Unlikely.

Unless you buy into the hype around Hartford Mayor Luke Bronin’s tweet today in response to the news. Which certainly adds some high octane fuel to the ‘Bring The Whalers Back’ fire.

Only time will tell what the true future of the green and blue sweater holds for hockey fans  in Connecticut. But for now, turn up brass bonanza again and let’s have some fun watching the Whalers this winter right before Santa makes his way to Hartford.
