The CIA’s Torture Playlist For Terror Suspects
When it comes to the topic of torture the conversation usually turns pretty heated, pretty quick. For the sake of this fascinating article about how the CIA used music to torture terror suspects in the early 2000s after the attacks on 9/11, let’s set aside our political views for a minute and breakdown the playlist they used.
1. ”The Real Slim Shady” by Eminem
This one didn’t make sense to me at first, but go ahead and listen to it 4-5 times in a row. It will make sense by about the third listen.
2. “Take Your Best Shot” by Dope
This will make much more sense on the first listen. A product of that terrible nu-metal phase of music in the early 2000s. A band that spent many summers on the Ozzfest.
3. ”Dirrty” by Christina Aguilera
Really? I mean, I guess this would get annoying eventually when played at top volume. Clearly they weren’t torturing American teenage boys in the mid-2000s. As long as they didn’t show the video to them, then it would just be a reward.
4. ”Zikrayati (My Memories)” by Mohamed el-Qasabgi
I’ll be honest, I have no idea what this is or what is even going on. What instrument is that?! Is it really SEVEN minutes of this? I feel like I’M being tortured now.
5. ”Babylon” by David Gray
Oh! A dentist office favorite. Makes sense since most dentist office visits are torture as well.
6. ”I Love You” by The Barney Theme
HA! Okay, at this point the CIA was just doing bits right? So they were like, ” Well, we have done and used everything in our torture bag of tricks now let’s just do bits with these assholes.” I think a lot of parents might agree with this one more than the actual terrorists.
7. ”Saturday Night Fever” by the Bee Gees
I see what the did here. Too bad most of those terrorists didn’t understand the lyrics to this though. Again, the CIA just doing bits to amuse themselves at this point.
8. The Meow Mix theme
Done. Game Over. If this was me getting tortured I’d give up the minute this comes on. So annoying and terrible. They MUST have got some of those monsters to break with this one.
9. “The Beautiful People” by Marilyn Manson
This song just rules. I’m guessing this doubled as a torture song for the terrorist and also as a “get pumped” song for the CIA.
10. ”F— Your God” by Deicide
Wow. This sounds like my nightmares. I can tell you right now that this is the first and last time I will ever hear this song. This had to have worked. Hopefully they played it right after the Barney song too.
11. “We Are the Champions” by Queen
