As Summer Blockbuster Season nears it’s peak, the movies we’ve seen promoted for months are starting to trickle into theaters. This week, two of the most inescapably promoted movies of the summer debut head-to-head as Mike and Dave Need Wedding Dates squares off against The Secret Life of Pets.

We’ve seen both of these before… but that can be said about just about any movie in 2016. The vast majority of big movies are sequels, reboots, entries into expanded universes, and ‘reimaginings.’ There’s nothing wrong with that, either– it’s just the way it is. These big bets made by the studio heads need to pay off somehow, so the name of the game is fishing where the fish are. In the case of this week, we’re harvesting crops from the fields that produced hits like Wedding Crashers and Despicable Me.

M+DNWD and tSLoP may not live up to their spiritual prequels, but hey… if you’re going to follow templates, these are two good ones to follow.

C’mon Hollywood, Play the Hits!
