Connecticut has a severely negative reputation about its drivers. Then again, our roads aren’t much to brag about, either. But, if you want to find the worst drivers of all, you won’t find them here. Shocking, am I right? Even more shocking: it’s not Massachusetts.
However, the honor does go to somewhere in New England.
NBC Connecticut reports that the state with the absolute worst drivers is Rhode Island! How can such a tiny state house so many bad drivers?
Well, as someone who’d cut through RI to hit up Boston, I can assure you speed is definitely a factor. Pair that with their never-ending construction and lanes changing from 3 to 2 to 4 randomly… yeah, I can see it.
Because I dreaded driving through RI. Especially Providence.
Anyways, EverQuote, which is a safe driving app, issued this latest study. They pumped out this study because more people are on the roads than ever. They estimate that up to 214 million people hit the roads a day.
And, honestly, the east coast needs to go back to driving school. Because we all came at the bottom of the list. New Hampshire, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Connecticut, and Rhode Island all placed in the bottom 5.
Meanwhile, Montana, Wyoming, Alaska, North and South Dakota nabbed the top 5 spots.
So, how did Connecticut compare overall? Well, we have the 5th highest cell-phone use behind the wheels. We also have a need for speed and a penchant for road rage.
Oh, and don’t forget, EverQuote also knocked us for our poor-use of turn signals and ability to slam on the brakes.
So, as you get ready to drive home today, know full well you are driving in the 2nd most dangerous state! Happy travels!
