It’s the biggest unofficial first race of the New Year… who delivers the first baby. Considering that babies are adorable and news tends to tilt towards the lighter side in January… newspapers decorate their front pages with images of babies.
CT Boom is no different. Because we love babies.
But, we are a day late. We still a winter storm to talk about.
WFSB released a list of Connecticut’s first babies of 2018. The official first newborn of 2018 is Layla Rose Levy. She came just seconds after midnight at Yale-New Haven Children’s Hospital. Her parents, Harrison and Amelia Levy, are over the moon because she’s their first daughter. She weighed a healthy 8 pounds and 10 ounces.
The second baby of 2018 is Amari Lee Rosado, born at the Hospital of Central Connecticut on 12:04am. Her parents, Lahquitta Weaver and Mike Rosado, say she “came a little early” because her due date was the 23rd. So, it’s no wonder why they call her a little surprise. She weighs 5 pounds, 4.8 ounces.
Her siblings, 10 year old Michael, 8-year-old sister Maleiah and two-year-old Sanai, already fell in love their new baby sister. Her mom already calls her “my little angel.” That’s a lot to say since Amari took 11 hours to make her debut.
The third baby, Mason Raphael Mederos, arrived in Greenwich Hospital. The 7 lbs. 14 oz infant arrived promptly at 12:08am on New Year’s Day. He’s the second child of Emily and TJ Mederos, who live in Port Chester, NY, who are high school sweethearts. They have another child, one-year-old Matthew Aiden.
Stamford welcomed the 4th baby of the New Year. A month early, Charles Antonio Mendez made his debut at 1:40am. This is the second child for Antonio Mendez and Mari Martinez-Mendez. They have a 4-year-old girl so they didn’t have big plans for New Years. Which, in hindsight, was probably for the best. Charles is big despite being so early, weighing 4-and-a-half pounds.
Danbury welcomed their first infant of 2018, Alina Betsy Rose Ortega. Weighing 7 pounds, 2 ounces, she is the first child of parents Jonathan and Pamela Ortega. She arrived promptly at 6am.
In Bridgeport, two hospitals reported their first infants of the new year. The first is Kacey Moss, who arrived at St. Vincent’s Medical Center at 6:08 am. She weighed 7 pounds, 9 ounces. Her mother, Shanique Clarke of Stratford, can’t wait for this exciting new chapter in her life. She was also joined by her sister, Shaunakay Clarke, for support.
Bridgeport Hospital also welcomed their first infant at 8:30am. Nico Anthony Mastronardi, weighing 7 pounds, 4 ounces, is the second child of Shelton couple, Lisa and Michael Mastronardi. His older brother is 2-year-old Luca.
Did we miss anyone? Please let us know so we can add it to the list of the first babies of 2018! Happy New Year!
