As you’re probably aware, last night’s Powerball jackpot was a big one. The total had grown to $435 million before the drawing. It was the 7th largest prize in the game’s history.
Sadly, no one in Connecticut won the whole thing. According to the CT Post, that honor goes to a still unidentified resident in Indiana.
But that doesn’t mean Connecticut finally broke its streak of crazy lottery wins. No, this run that we’re on is still alive. After people who won on their birthdays, people who won right after moving here, people who won by accident, people who won using fortune cookie numbers, and people who won but didn’t claim their prize yet, we have yet another winner to add to the list.
According to that CT Post report, amid 49,128 small-time winners claiming $4 here or even $100 there, one Connecticut ticket earned a $50,000 payout.
Of course, $50,000 isn’t as life-changing as $435 million. Not even close. But it can still make a big difference in someone’s life. You can use $50,000 to pay off debts, go on a vacation, make repairs to your home or car, or just save and invest it and hope you turn it into a big piece of pie.
The key here, unlike the last $50,000 winner in Connecticut who didn’t claim their prize yet, is that you have to actually get the money to use it. Claim your prize and don’t leave us all wondering if we threw out a winning ticket without double-checking it.
As for the rest of us, it’s pretty clear that Connecticut is winning right now. It’s been winner after winner after winner. And sure, the Powerball jackpot is back down to $40 million, but that’s still life-changing money. So go out and get your tickets before Saturday. Our state is on a hot streak and we’re gonna let it ride!
