Spend more than five minutes in Connecticut and you will hear about the taxes. Live in Connecticut and you will learn to hate them.

The much bemoaned gas taxes (41 cents per gallon), our 6.35% sales tax and don’t forget the 7% luxury tax. All those number have placed us in a not-so-prestigious position on the Least Tax-Friendly States List.

Kiplinger crunched lots of numbers to determine which states were rife with taxation. Only California fared worse than Connecticut, securing us the #2 slot! Hooray?

The Worst 5 shook out as follows:
California
Connecticut
New Jersey
Hawaii
New York

Meanwhile, if you want some relief from taxes here are the Top 5 Tax-Friendly states:
Delaware
Wyoming
Alaska
Louisiana
Alabama

I can only imagine living in one of those states. I will let you figure out which one… Are you ready to leave the state for less-taxes pastures?

PS – Avoid the comments in the Kiplinger post, ’tis a silly place.
PPS – Kiplinger was kind enough to include out State Insect in the piece, go Mantises!
