It’s been a week since CT Boom launched it’s Connecticut’s Hottest Newsmen 2016 post and started tallying votes. And with 7 days of voting under our belts, we’re prepared to declare a winner and crown our Hottest Newsman of 2016!

Congratulations to Dan Amarante of FOX 61! He takes the crown!

Like our female winner, Courtney Zieller, Amarante is homegrown. According to his biography on FOX 61’s website, he was born and raised in Connecticut and attended college here.

As a student at Western Connecticut State University, Amarante studied weather, handled broadcasts on the school’s website and radio station, and played centerfield for the baseball team.

He then started his career in Springfield, Massachusetts before returning home to give Connecticut the latest weather updates.

His highlight reel includes everything from diving catches in charity softball games that are worthy of SportsCenter’s Top 10 to braving blizzards to update us on conditions.

We’ve had a pretty light winter so far, meaning we’ve all loved hearing Amarante tell us how little snow there is in forecast. Here’s hoping he keeps that up to Spring rolls in.

So take your victory lap, Dan!

Here’s how the voting rounded out for the rest of the Top 10:

  1. Dan Amarante
  2. Scott McDonnell
  3. Lorenzo Hall
  4. Jason Newton
  5. Jim Altman
  6. Ted Koppy
  7. Tim Lammers
  8. Mark Zinni
  9. Jeevan Vittal
  10. Gerry Brooks
