Don’t Lie To Me, Mike Tyson – You’ve Played “Punch-Out!!” Before
Today, a video has gone viral of Mike Tyson playing Mike Tyson’s Punch-Out!! for the original Nintendo Entertainment System. For the first time. In 2013:
I’m sorry, but it’s time to declare “shenanigans” on FOX Sports. There’s absolutely no freaking way this is the first time Mike Tyson has played the video game Mike Tyson’s Punch-Out!! I’ll give you that he may not necessarily remember how to play it, but never played it? No – it’s an impossibility.
First, he was 21 when the game came out. In 1987, the average age of video game players was closer to 21 – not like today, when the average age is more like 31.
Second, when Nintendo approached him to be featured in the game, he never even considered seeing what it was like, to make sure they didn’t make him look completely foolish? Granted, I’m sure his managers made the decision for him, but there’s no way he wasn’t curious.
Then, when the game became a MONSTER hit on a system that literally EVERYONE was talking about, he still wasn’t curious?
How about his buddies? You’re telling me that when he was at the height of his success, hanging out with all his friends, they didn’t get together occasionally to get through Super Macho Man so that they can go toe-to-toe and beat him right in front of him?!? Stop.
Look at professional football players today. All they do is play the latest version of Madden with the explicit purpose to play either as themselves or to beat their fellow teammates. And, in the 80s, it was Tecmo Bowl. How about soldiers? When they’re not on duty, they’re playing Call of Duty to pass the time.
Finally, there’s proof that he played the game already – how dare you forget this:
