Goodbye yellow brick road.
Yesterday, Elton John announced his Farewell Yellow Brick Road retirement tour via Youtube. Beginning in September, the tour will span three years, and have over 300 shows. And, there’s a possibility of more shows being added.

According to an article on BBC entitled Elton John ‘to go out with a bang’ on final world tour, the singer says that he wants to go out with a “bang.” And, if you’re doing a tour of this magnitude, it’s safe to say that John will.
However, fans don’t despair. Just because he’s done touring doesn’t mean he’s done releasing new material. BBC says that he still plans to release new music, write musicals, and there’s even talk about a memoir.
With that being said, he wants to make on thing clear — he’s not retiring due to ill health. He’s retiring so he can spend more time with his family. According to the Elton John website, John said that “it’s time to come off the road so I can fully embrace the most important chapter of my life.”
But, let’s be honest here. There is no singer like Elton John. His single, Candle In The Wind/Something About the Way You Look Tonight, is tied for being one of the best selling singles of all time. And, his catalog is huge. The singer has over 33 studio albums, and he’s been touring for over 50 years.
Adding to that, his songs are true classics — from Your Song, The One to Tiny Dancer.
Despite this, though I can not help but wonder if this is truly going to be the last tour that Elton John has. Many artists have had multiple ‘farewell’ tours, so maybe Elton John will go back on tour in a few years.
However, let me add this. As a huge Elton John fan, you bet I will do whatever I can to get my hands on some tickets.
