The last time we looked at the GametimeCT/Register Top 10 Southington held the top spot, Ansonia was undefeated, and SCC teams Cheshire and Xavier were in the top 10. That was Week 5, this is Week 8, and only one of the before mentioned stats remains the same. Two weeks ago Ansonia’s 48 game win streak was snapped by Newtown in a 14-8 loss. Just this past week, Xavier and Cheshire lost their first games of the season. That leaves Southington still at #1.

Actually, the top 5 spots remain unchanged from last week, and with Halloween falling on a Friday this year some teams have opted to play on Thursday or Saturday which, depending on when they play, could lead to another shakeup.

#1 Southinton (6-0)
Last week – Defeated Conard 41-6
Up next – vs. Newington, Saturday, 1pm
The Scoop – Southington QB Jasen Rose threw for 353 yards and 5 touchdowns last week.

#2 Darien (7-0)
Last week – Defeated Ridgefield 50-23
Up next – @ Wilton, Friday, 6pm.
The Scoop – Easy win for Darien over a Ridgefield team that was in the state playoffs last year.

#3 New Canaan (6-0)
Last week – Defeated Staples 35-2
Up next – @ St. Joseph, Saturday, 1:30pm
The Scoop – Showdown with St. Joe’s could very well have FCIAC title implications.

#4 Newtown (7-0)
Last week – Defeated Brookfield 21-14
Up next – @ Weston, Friday, 7pm
The Scoop – I’ll admit, I’ve never been high on Newtown because they had not beaten a particularly good team. Their defeat of Ansonia was just that. Newtown still needs to win a state playoff game to completely win me over.

#5 Shelton (7-0)
Last week – Defeated Hand 33-20
Up next – @ Hamden, Thursday, 7pm
The Scoop – Shelton avoided being the 3rd undefeated SCC team to lose Friday night, but lost senior receiver Chris Kanios for the rest of the regular season to a broken collarbone. Despite that, Hamden shouldn’t be an issue for the Gaels.

#6 St. Joseph (6-1)
Last week – Defeated Trinity Catholic 43-8
Up next – vs. New Canaan, Saturday, 1:30pm
The Scoop – St Joe’s is looking for payback after losing to New Canaan twice last year. St Joe’s needs the win to stay in FCIAC title contention.

#7 Windsor (7-0)
Last week – Defeated Bristol Eastern 44-0
Up next – @ Maloney, Friday, 6:30pm
The Scoop – Windsor is looking for their fifth straight shutout victory.

#8 Ansonia (6-1)
Last week – Defeated Holy Cross 42-6
Up next – vs. Wolcott, Thursday, 6pm
The Scoop – Nice rebound win for the Chargers behind 4 touchdowns from Tajik Bagley.

#9 Ledyard (7-0)
Last week – Defeated Killingly 49-6
Up next – vs. Windham, Friday, 6:30pm
The Scoop – In their first week in the poll, Ledyard hosts undefeated Windham. A Ledyard win solidifies their position in the poll, but a loss to Windham will bounce them out and put Windham in.

#10 Wethersfield (7-0)
Last week – Defeated Fermi 37-0
Up next – @ RHAM, Saturday, 1pm
The Scoop – Wethersfield makes their debut in the poll this week, and they don’t plan on leaving it anytime soon.

Ledyard has ripped through their division to earn their spot in the top 10, while Whethersfield inched by Xavier and Cheshire, who dropped out with their losses. With Xavier and Cheshire out, St Joseph, Windsor, and Ansonia were able to move up in the polls.
