With #bleedblue trending on Twitter, and UConn fever pinned in the red, Gov. Malloy decided to officially honor the University of Connecticut men’s and women’s basketball teams, which compete in the Final Four of the NCAA tournament this coming Saturday and Sunday, by deeming the weekend to be “Husky Weekend!”
This is the fourth time both teams have advanced to the national semifinals, with the last time coming in 2011.
In the Governor Malloy’s proclamation, he said:
“UConn again is the only school in the nation to have both our men’s and women’s basketball teams reach the NCAA Final Four, and for that we are incredibly proud. This weekend, I urge Connecticut residents to put on your blue and white and show the nation how excited we are for our hometown teams.”
Gov. Malloy also said he’d extend “Husky Weekend” through Tuesday if one or both teams make it to the championship.
After a quick search on Twitter to see how locals took to this news, I’m pretty sure that this dude in Danbury summed up most UConn fans feelings succinctly.
Governor Malloy making this weekend officially Husky Weekend gives me a little faith in this country. At least they can get one thing right.
