Marvel Studios has had the pop culture market cornered for years.  In the summer of 2014, they took a break from the earth-bound heroic tales of Iron Man, Captain America, and their Avengers cohorts to give us something a little different – Guardians of the Galaxy. It should come as no surprise that Marvel made a big bet and it paid off 10-fold.

A movie based on a comic book that no one really knew, starring a former wrestler, Lt. Uhura, the dad-bod goofball from Parks and Rec, a talking raccoon, and a living tree became the biggest surprise hit in the Marvel Universe because it delivered something all movie goers want – charisma. GotG is essentially the continuing adventures of an entire team of Han Solos and I hope they make a million of them.

What’s It About (via Rotten Tomatoes):

Set to the all-new sonic backdrop of Awesome Mixtape #2, Marvel Studios’ “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2” continues the team’s adventures as they traverse the outer reaches of the cosmos. The Guardians must fight to keep their newfound family together as they unravel the mystery of Peter Quill’s true parentage. Old foes become new allies and fan-favorite characters from the classic comics will come to our heroes’ aid as the Marvel Cinematic Universe continues to expand.

Should You See It:

This is a 100% yes.  Even if you don’t like space opera, comic books, action movies, or tons of special effects, go see this movie.  The charisma of the cast and action-comedy vibe pulsating from the Marvel Universe right now is enough to ensure a good time even if comic books aren’t your thing.
