This is one of those odd oxy-moron stories that makes you wonder why bad things happen to good people. I always think it’s great when people put their own welfare aside to help animals. Truth be told, I will never be the one putting a sick bird in a shoe box and brining it to the vet. I’m more the “Aw, that sucks, that bird is hurt… What am I going to eat for lunch today?”- but even though I don’t have that burning desire to help animals, I think that people that do are awesome. Sure, maybe these people are not always the smartest, (Seriously, how many times have you heard about people that cause car accidents because they jump out of their cars to save ducks on the highway?! It happens all the time. Don’t believe me? Click here.) but alas, their heart is in the right place.
For example, a 54-year-old Hamden man was driving through the town this week when he spotted a turtle crossing the road. Instead of driving around the turtle and going on his way (which is what I would have done) he pulled over, got out of the car and assisted the turtle so it could make it safely across the street. That’s when he was attacked by a roaming dog. That’s right. A black Labrador ran over and pounced on the man. He had serious bite wounds to his forearm and leg. He had to be transported to Yale-New Haven hospital.
Oh, the irony. He was trying to help the animals… but ended up being attacked by an animal. The world is a nutty place.
