The classic song “Take Me Out to the Ballgame” will be missing it’s famous line “buy me some peanuts and cracker Jacks” when it comes to Dunkin’ Donuts Park in Hartford.
The Yard Goats announced today that they will not sell peanuts in any capacity to better accommodate fans with allergies. They are, quite possibly, the first ballpark in the nation to not serve peanuts in ANY capacity.
Yard Goats President Tim Restall said the team and minor league baseball did some research and found no other ballparks that have gone peanut-free for an entire season.
“We believe we are the first and only team to do this,” Restall said, adding that the plan is to be permanently peanut free.
“The way we look at it, if we eliminate this one item to allow kids to enjoy a baseball game, that’s what it all comes down to. Why prevent someone from catching a foul ball or getting a picture with [mascots] Chompers and Chew Chew because of a food item?”
