Healthy States Named And You Won’t Believe Where CT Ranks!
The United Health Foundation released their 2013 America’s Health Rankings on Wednesday and Connecticut came in 7th!
The rankings cover a bunch of different factors including obesity, diabetes, smoking and physical activity levels. Then through some algorithm I would never understand they determine each states rankings.
Ranking in the Top 10 is pretty solid. Only six states are healthier than us! They are Utah(6), New Hampshire(5), Massachusetts(4), Minnesota(3), Vermont(2) and Hawaii at Number 1. Not a bad showing by New England, right? Mississippi came in dead last.
Here are a few notes highs and lows for CT:
Low prevalence of smoking
Low incidence of infectious diseases
High immunization coverage among children & adolescents
Moderate prevalence of binge drinking
Low high school graduation rate
Large disparity in health status by educational attainment
While we don’t smoke too much here in CT we have seen our physical activity drop quite a bit. So get off the couch this weekend and let’s see if we can’t crack the Top 5!
