It only took one egg to dethrone Kylie Jenner as the most-liked Instagram post of all time.
Yes, I’m serious. One single egg got over 30 million likes on Instagram. Now, this is just a plain brown egg with freckles that you can easily get at your local grocery store. It is not diamond encrusted, nor is a celebrity or cute puppy holding it.
The post was posted on an account called world-record_egg.It went live on January 4th, with the caption “Let’s set a world record together and get the most liked post on Instagram. Beating the current world record held by Kylie Jenner (18 million)! We got this.”

And, it succeeded. As of January 14th at 11:30 a.m., it has received over 30 million likes.
Keep in mind, that this is simply an egg.
This egg beat Kylie Jenner’s birth announcement as the most-liked post on Instagram. That post received over 18 million likes.
Now, egg supporters began taunting Jenner. According to an article on the New York Times entitled An Egg, Just A Regular Egg, Is Instagrams’ Most-Liked Post Ever, egg supporters commented that very post with egg emojis or the word “egg.”
However, Jenner fought back. Yesterday, she responded by posting a video of herself cracking an egg onto the pavement with the caption take that little egg. That post has received over 19 million views.

But, this is only the beginning. According to the New York Times article, the creator of the account hinted at a “mysterious Phase 2” of the plan. The article wrote on Instagram that “it doesn’t end here,” and that we’re only just getting started.”
Currently, the creator of the account is unknown. It also unknown why this was post, as well as what made this post go viral.
I think we’re going a bit egg-streme here, but you gotta love the Internet folks.
