On August 29, 2013, an infamous incident happened in Hartford. It was the first Oddball Comedy Festival and Dave Chappelle was the headliner, making his triumphant standup comedy return. He came out on stage, took issue with “hecklers” and had his infamous meltdown:
It made national news and was still on everyone’s mind one year later when the Oddball Festival came back to Connecticut. This time, Louis CK was the headliner and he brought out a special guest – Dave Chappelle – and all was forgiven:
One of the comedians that did a set that night was Kristen Schaal. You may know her as the voice of Louise on “Bob’s Burgers” or her role on “Last Man on Earth.” She’s a bit more famous now then she was then, and went on on stage that night before “Flight of the Conchords” (a show she also was on). And she talks about her experience in the latest Nerdist podcast with Chris Hardwick. I can’t embed it, but her Hartford experience begins at the 29 minute mark.
The whole podcast is worth a listen (especially the end but only if you’re familiar with HBO’s “The Jinx”). And if you don’t listen to the Nerdist podcast regularly, you should start.
And if you don’t listen to podcasts, you should join the 21st century.
