If it hasn’t hit you yet, it’s October. Fall is here. The leaves are changing colors and falling to the ground. The days are getting shorter and the nights are getting longer. There’s a chill in the air.

For some people, these are just typical signs of a New England fall. But for others – for those who love a thrill, for those who get a sly smile across their face this time of year, and for those who treat fall and Halloween as synonymous – these are not just signs of fall, they are opportunities.

The folks over at Legends of Fear in Shelton, Connecticut fall into the latter category. For them, bare branches aren’t just leafless trees – they are the arms of demons stretching out to grab you. For them, the shorter nights don’t mean an earlier bed time – they mean more waking hours for the dead to walk among us. And for them, the chill is not winter slowly moving in – it is the breath of ghosts invading your lungs. If you’re not convinced that that’s the case, just look at what they tweeted back in September:

Or watch this video of what they have planned:

Convinced now?

Suffice to say, Legends of Fear is not for the faint of heart, which is the very reason it is the perfect New England attraction this time of year.

Here in New England, we get into the Halloween spirit. This isn’t just a time to put on a silly outfit and eat inappropriate amounts of candy. This is our one time of year to shamelessly scare the living daylights out of each other, to remind ourselves what it feels like to have our hearts in our throats even though nothing has even happened yet, and to scream and pulse with adrenaline at the mere thought of what’s lurking around the next corner.

Legends of Fear in Shelton embraces that Halloween spirit to the fullest. They love that nervous, clammy feeling of anticipation, and they deliver it at the highest level.

Here in New England, we live for fall, for Halloween, and all that comes with them. So regardless of whether fall has hit you yet, the time has come to embrace it. The time has come to remind yourself of that love of being scared. The time has come to experience Legends of Fear.

You can do just that every weekend night (October 16, 17, 18, 23, 24, 25, and 30) from 7PM to 10PM at Fairview Tree Farm located at 2 Saw Mill City Road in Shelton, Connecticut. You can buy tickets online here or at the box office when it opens at 6PM.
