David Spade has been around for such a long time and been in so many terrible sitcoms and amazing movies (Tommy Boy is obviously great, and so is Joe Dirt no matter what you say) that it’s hard to remember a time when he was just an unknown working comic, making the rounds and playing the college circuit.
You can imagine my surprise when he told this story to Chris Hardwick on a new episode of the Nerdist podcast that involves a trip to Connecticut while he was just getting his start on “Saturday Night Live” in the early ’90s and he had to do a gig in Fairfield at Sacred Heart University.
He was supposed to perform for 45 minutes. He was on stage for 43 minutes.
So they kept the money (story begins at 9:45):
The whole interview is really great and worth a listen – he really is genuinely funny and has some amazing stories.
