Whether you’re looking to be more active or just add some steps to your Fitbit I have the perfect event for you. The Star Inc. Lighting the Way’s 13th Annual Walk, 5k Run & Roll!

It’s happening Sunday May 6th on Sherwood Island State Park in Westport from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Onsite registration and check-in will begin at 9 a.m., with the races beginning shortly after 10 a.m. Children under five are free and students will receive special pricing. All participants will receive a free T-shirt, breakfast and lunch.

All are welcome to participate in the event regardless of athletic ability. With multiple paths it makes it easy for everyone to get involved. For those who are athletic there is the 5K race. This route takes you throughout the park and along the coast. However, if you’re not a runner you can also opt for the shorter “Walkers and Rollers” one mile route. Perfect for those who are “rollers” (people in wheelchairs) as well as strollers. You can also do it solo or with a team.

If you are interested consider registering online for discounted registration. However, if you miss online registration you still can register the day of the event.

The Walk, 5k Run & Roll event is jam packed with activities. A kid’s Fun Bus, face-painting, balloon sculpting, crafts, music, dancing and chances to win prizes.

The 13th Annual Walk, 5k Run & Roll is Star Inc.’s biggest fundraising event of the year. Proceeds will benefit Star Inc. Lighting the Way. Star Inc. Lighting The Way is a nonprofit organization that serves those who have developmental disabilities and support services to their families. They provide services in Norwalk, New Canaan, Wilton, Weston, Westport and Darien.

As their mission statement STAR creates opportunities for individuals to live full lives with independence, freedom of choice and personal growth by providing services and advocacy. STAR provides services to over 500 infants, children and adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities and their families with approximately. 74% of these in the low/moderate income level.  They primarily reside in Fairfield County, with  Respite Services offered throughout Connecticut.
