As the march towards Award Show Season rolls on, this week two new contenders step into the box office proving ground to see who takes the title off of Ben Affleck’s Gone Girl.

First up is The Best Of Me – the latest movie adaption of a book by romance scribe Nicholas Sparks. Ever since The Notebook forced everyone to fall in love with Ryan Gosling, if Nicholas Spark’s name is on the poster, people are going to flock to it at the movie theater.

What’s It About: A pair of former high school sweethearts reunite after many years when they return to visit their small hometown.

Judge For Yourself:

The only things standing in The Best of Me’s path to box office domination is the new Brad Pitt movie, Fury – the story of a tank crew behind enemy lines in WWII Germany. You could not pick a more different movie to compete with a romantic drama than this one, although I guarantee Fury will not be short on drama- just not the “holding-faces-about-to-kiss-in-the-rain” drama. Although… who knows? Maybe Shia LaBeouf gets really weird in this one.

What’s It About: April, 1945. As the Allies make their final push in the European Theatre, a battle-hardened army sergeant named Wardaddy commands a Sherman tank and her five-man crew on a deadly mission behind enemy lines. Out-numbered, out-gunned, and with a rookie soldier thrust into their platoon, Wardaddy and his men face overwhelming odds in their heroic attempts to strike at the heart of Nazi Germany.
