Massive Outages, Derailments, And Now You Won’t Believe What’s Coming Next From Metro-North
If you’re one of the thousands from Connecticut who enjoy going into Manhattan during the holiday season, to see the Shelton-supplied Rockefeller Center Christmas tree, to go shopping or see the Radio City Music Hall Christmas Spectacular, it’s more than likely you’re doing so with your family aboard Metro-North railroad. Well, enjoy the holidays, because starting on January 1, it’s gonna cost you.
Yes – Metro-North is raising their fares. 5% along every stop of the New Haven Line. And that’s not all – it’s also happening along Shore Line East from New Haven up to New London.
Granted, this isn’t new information. It’s actually part of a scheduled increase over the past decade – 4% for the rate of inflation, plus an additional 1% for new M-8 rail cars.
However, it’s just coming at what’s arguably the most inopportune time for the railroad, where consumer confidence is at its lowest. 2013 wasn’t a particularly good one for Metro-North, and this is only the icing on the cake.
