Medical Weed On The Way
2014 could be the Year of Weed in CT. The General Assembly has approved the regulations for growers and dispensaries of medical marijuana. Three to ten licenses will be distributed to producers and three to five for dispensaries. They will serve the 881 patients currently cleared for medical marijuana use. The number could rise if the number of patients does.
Opponents of the new program say that this will put CT at odds with the Federal Government’s stance on marijuana which does not allow for recreational or medical use of weed. There is concern that this could cause a stand-off between Federal and State laws.
I say good. Tell the Feds to suck it. They have essentially proven they are incapable of making important decisions on their own and often have to be dragged kicking and screaming into modern times. The benefits of medical marijuana far outweigh any falsified dangers the Feds might present in an argument.
Sen. Len Fasano is one of the opponents of the regulations. He says that CT is inviting Federal scrutiny by regulating illegal activity. Fasano stated “These are the most intense, in-your-face regulations you’ve ever seen — ‘Come get us.’” I agree with him and I am all for it. We should be in the feds face more often.
