We get it. You are super important and that text you just got requires and immediate “LOL” response. The problem is your driving skills register way lower than your texting skills and your inane need to respond immediately to a person you probably just saw can kill some one.

If you are one of those people who can’t seem to get the message it might end up costing. Police all over the state are spending April cracking down on distracted driving. This includes texting and talking on the phone. It is 2016 and if you don’t have bluetooth built into your car there are plenty of other ways to go hands-free. As for your texting? Buy an after market Android or Apple compatible headunit and it will read your texts and take your voice replies. Just keep your eyes on the road.

This is the 3rd crackdown in the last year which means there is a need for and money to be made. And some drivers aren’t getting the message. In Hamden they nabbed 438 drivers in April 2015 and 574 drivers in August 2015.

If you decide to ignore this warming here is the way the fines go:
1st offense – $150
2nd offense – $300
3rd and beyond – $500

That $150 would be better spent getting you some pretty decent bluetooth gear to help you avoid any legal entanglements.

PS – Hamden, get your shit together.
