The Odds of Winning Tomorrow’s $550 Million Mega Millions Jackpot Are Worse Than Ever… Here’s Why.

With no one taking home the gigantic Mega Millions jackpot on Friday night, we get ready to do it all again for tomorrow’s drawing. One man in Shelton actually came real close on Friday night, hitting all 5 numbers but missing the last Mega Millions number. He still took home a cool $1 million. Not bad.

Tomorrow’s jackpot, as of now, is up to $550 Million making it the fourth highest payout in lottery jackpot history. Some people are saying it could even break the all-time record ($656 million) by the time the drawing happens tomorrow night. Sounds like a much better Christmas present than that over-sized sweater you’re going to get from grandma.

We all know how this goes. “Biggest jackpot in history, let’s all go buy tickets and start work pools so we can all not win” blah blah blah. But this time there is one big difference this time around with the jackpot payout. Turns out the odds of winning this Mega Millions jackpot are MUCH WORSE than ever before. This is because they changed the system a few months ago. It used to be that you would pick five numbers from 1-56. Now you have to pick five numbers from 1-75. They also now make you pick a Mega Millions number. Those choices actually got smaller. It used to be 1-46, now you pick a number from 1-15. Or you could just do a Quick Pick like I do and let the machine choose your fate.

With all these new rules and nonsense the odds of winning have now gone from one in 176 million to one in 259 MILLION!

The only upside to this is that now the odds are lower than anyone will actually win, so the jackpot will keep getting higher. Most likely the reason they made these changes in the first place. This means we could be looking at a jackpot close to a billion dollars heading into the week of Christmas.

A lot of people will say that you are just wasting your money and will NEVER win a jackpot this high. Others will say whatever, at $2 a ticket it’s worth the chance. I’m with those people. The fact is you can’t win if you don’t play.

Good luck everyone!
