One Day, Two Big Developments In The Connecticut Bar And Nightlife Scene
It’s not too often when we can say in Connecticut that the nightlife scene just got raised a notch cooler – but yet, here we are. One we actually knew about for the past few months, but the other is totally brand new and rather unexpected.
The first is the grand opening today of the new Bobby V’s Restaurant and Sports Bar in Windsor Locks. It’s right near Bradley Airport in the Bradley Teletheater – it’s adjacent to the Winners OTB complex, but while you have to be 21+ to get into Winners, you only need to be 18+ to go in Bobby V’s. If it’s anything like the original Bobby V’s Sports Gallery Cafe in Stamford, it’s easily one of the best places to catch any game, Super Bowl or otherwise (although I have to inquire why the website for Bobby V’s Texas restaurant is so much cooler than the Connecticut one?)
The other big announcement which kind of came out of nowhere is that the Black Rock section of Bridgeport just got a grant for a $500,000 upgrade. Lights, storefronts, sidewalks, signs, (and hopefully parking) will all be addressed and improved with this grant to help Black Rock compete with the likes of SoNo or New Haven. This is certainly exciting – Bridgeport has had enough bad press for a long enough time that some good news to improve the city is always welcome.
