You know you’ve made it big when you’ve got a sandwich named after you.
Well, Quinnipiac head hockey coach, Rand Pecknold now has his very own. You can now get the “randwich” at B&D Deliworks in Hamden. The deli, according to their Facebook page, is a proud sponsor of Quinnipiac athletics. Therefore, naming a sandwich after the coach is the perfect way to show their support for the Bobcats.
According to an article on WTNH entitled “Quinnipiac’s Rand Pecknold gets his own “Randwich” at Hamden deli,” the “randwich” consists of: pesto, mayonnaise, grilled chicken, cheese, spinach, and bacon on a hard roll.
I’m not going to lie, it sounds pretty delicious.
The article went onto say that since its launch last week, Pecknold had a sandwich on Friday and once again on Monday when he took the staff out for lunch. He says, according to the article, that it’s a pretty “unique” situation to have a sandwich named after you.
However, this isn’t the only Bobcat item the Deli offers. According to their website, B& D also offers three Bobcat sandwiches on their menu. These items include: the Quinnipiac panini, the Q-Dog sub (two 10-inch dogs on a grinder roll topped with bacon, cheese, grilled onions, tomato, dill pickle, and spicy brown mustard), and the Bobcat Buffalo Wrap (buffalo crispy chicken, lettuce, cheddar, coleslaw, and bleu cheese dressing in a grilled wrap.)
But the fun doesn’t stop there. According to their Facebook, B&D Deli also offers the “Game Day Deal” on game days, which consists of one of those three sandwiches, a side, a drink and a homemade cookie.
These sandwiches, along with the Randwich, are the perfect game day delicacy — especially as the Bobcats are getting ready to play against Yale (their rival) tonight at Ingalls rink. And, if you know anything about college hockey, that is definitely an intense game. I wonder if the team will be enjoying a “randwich” in preparation.
