I’m a big fan of TLC’s “I Didn’t Know I Was Pregnant”- Mostly because I can’t fathom how a woman goes through an entire term of pregnancy and doesn’t realize that there’s a baby growing inside her. I remember being pregnant and feeling like there was an alien growing inside of me… who, coincidentally, was trying to kill me with vomiting fits and strange pains. Yet, the stories exist of women that just magically go through this period without any notice actually exist- or so they say. That was the case in Connecticut this week.
A woman named Jennifer Scollin from Seymour thought she was having stomach pains when she called 9-1-1 a few days ago. Imagine her surprise when those stomach pains actually turned out to be labor- and she delivered a healthy 9 pound 3 ounce baby in the ambulance in her driveway. Normally I would suspect that this was some kind of redneck publicity stunt (as per my thoughts on TLC’s “I Didn’t Know I Was Pregnant” but this woman is a seemingly normal wife and mother- and has no reason to lie. It’s just a crazy story. NINE POUNDS. That baby wasn’t a premie five pounder- that ultimately could be what my belly swells to after a Big Mac and a large fry- No it was OVER nine pounds! And she had no idea. She got her period every month and felt fine up until the moment she went into labor. Both mom and new son are healthy and home.
Granted, her story is out of the ordinary but seemingly normal for a fluke occurrence- but for many women on that TLC show, their stories are a bit more extreme… Here’s a few of my favorites!
