What’s the biggest lie you’ve ever told?
One Stamford man named Tucker Blandford has you beat. The 23-year-old faked his own death to get out of marrying his fiancee. I have to give the guy some credit… Most immature men use text to break up with their girlfriends when they want to avoid confrontation- but Tucker took it to a whole new level. He pretended to be his father, called the fiancee, and lied about his own demise.
A little backstory about the not-so-happy couple. They had met at UCONN where Alex Lancaster was studying. She was a studying abroad from England. They met in 2012 and that’s when they fell in love. They dated for the last two years and when she had to return to England, Tucker proposed. They had “planned” the wedding for this week. That’s until a couple months ago when Tucker got a case of cold feet… so he decided to fake his death.
Impersonating his own father, he called Alex and delivered the terrible news. As though simply saying something along the lines of “he was killed in a car crash” wasn’t bad enough, he elaborated and told her that he had been depressed lately and threw himself in front of a car to commit suicide. Way to go Tucker. Not only did you opt to devastate a woman that thought she was marrying you- but you also added the element of “what could I have done to prevent this?” and “did I make him want to commit suicide?”. A true gentleman!
Apparently this fool didn’t think she would collect herself and call his parents BACK to get more information and to offer her condolences. When she did, she got his real parents on the phone who had no idea what she was talking about. They had been told that he broke up with her and never knew that they had planned to be married.
Now it’s time to turn to text… and that’s what Tucker did. He texted her an apology and paid her back for half of the wedding expenses that she had incurred. (What a guy!) He told the UK magazine The Daily Mail that “I’m a terrible, awful person. I know I shouldn’t have told her I was dead, but I didn’t know what else to do”.
Really? You couldn’t figure out another way to break up with her? Hell, text would have been appropriate instead of faking a death. She lives in England, what could she have possibly have done to you?!
This has to be the craziest story of the week if not year. So guys, whenever your girl gets on your case for anything- just remind her “Hey, at least I didn’t fake my own suicide”.
