I’ll be the first to tell you that I’m far from a huge sports fan, but when asked what I thought would be the biggest “throwback” jersey sold in Connecticut, I would guess something Boston or New York related.  Maybe Patrick Ewing or Mickey Mantle… Imagine my surprise when I learned that the number one selling retro jersey is… (via MitchellandNess.com)

Vince Carter – Toronto Raptors 1998-99 Authentic Jersey

“The Raptors struggled in their early expansion days, but following the 1998 acquisition of Carter, the team set attendance records in 2000, 2001, and 2002. Carter was key in leading the Raptors to the playoffs in 2000 for the first time in franchise history and led them to a then-franchise high of 47 wins and their first ever playoff series win in 2001, advancing to the Eastern Conference Semifinals.”

What the hell is that?  Can this be possible?  Up until I just did a Google search, I didn’t even know that Canada had a professional basketball team.  That being said, who is buying these retro jerseys?  I did some wiki research on Vince Carter and he seems like a nice enough guy and accomplished player- but I also can’t find a relation as to why he would be so popular here in Connecticut.  Does anybody else get this?

This jersey is being sold on the MitchellandNess website for $300.  Connecticut residents are paying THREE HUNDRED DOLLARS for this.
