This year’s Valentine’s Day will forever go down in history as the year without Sweetheart Conversation Hearts. Well, kind of. The candy will not be seen on shelves this year.
According to an article in Desert News entitled Why you won’t see Sweethearts conversation hearts in stores this Valentine’s Day, the popular candy will not be appearing on shelves this Valentine’s Day. The article says that this is because its’ company, Necco went out of business in 2018. Furthermore, the article goes onto say that sales of the classic candy have dropped 80 percent.
So, now what are elementary school students expected to fill their cardboard mailboxes for Valentine’s Day with?
However, do not despair. You can still purchase conversation hearts this Valentine’s Day. They just won’t be Sweethearts. For example, on Candy Warehouse, you can purchase Brach’s Conversation Hearts as well. And, if you really must have Sweetheart candy hearts, there’s still ways to get them. You can purchase them on several online retailer, including Amazon. After all, there is no better way to tell your sweetheart that you love them than a candy heart.
Valentine’s Day signature candy has been around since 1901.
With that being said, there is some good news here. According to the Sweethearts Wikipedia page, the candy will resume taking over Valentine’s Day in 2020. The page says that the rights to this candy was sold to Spangler Candy Company in September 2018. So, at least they are are going to make a comeback in Valentine’s Day 2020.
