The Lesson Of The Dave Chappelle Fiasco
There is no way you missed the fact that Dave Chappelle walked offstage during his performance in Hartford last night. The video is all over the net and people who were in attendance have blogged, Tweeted and Vined the whole ordeal. The question is, what did we learn?
The answer is most likely “nothing”. People will continue to buy ticket’s to Dave’s shows and lap up any apology he puts out. I am all about burning bridges and writing him off completely. If Dave can’t handle whatever an audience puts out there, positive or negative, he should hang it up.
From the accounts I have seen/read the crowd didn’t seem that bad. Dave certainly didn’t help by turning part of the show into a book reading. Not a wise move if you can already feel the crowd slipping away.
The problem is that Dave won’t learn any lesson from this. He will issue a half-assed apology and move on. His bottom line won’t take a hit and he just makes off with the Hartford crowd’s money. This isn’t new. Pro sports teams do it to their fans all the time. There are franchises that haven’t won in years but manage to sell out every game because their fans keep buying tickets. Why reward bad behavior?!
I wasn’t at the show last night but his actions will certainly keep me from attending any performance in the future. We simply can’t reward bad behavior so I will vote with my dollar. Hopefully others will too and Dave might learn something. I doubt it though.
