New Haven is home to many iconic and famous restaurants – ahem, Pepe’s – but, it’s also home to some of the most hole in the wall places to get food.
One of those places is the Pantry, located on Mechanic Street.
The Pantry has your typical brunch and breakfast foods – pancakes, waffles, eggs, and French toast, just to name a few. But, what makes them different than any other joint out there is the fact that they go the extra mile.
I’m talking cinnamon roll pancakes (what they are most famous for), chocolate chip waffles, and seasonal specialties such as pumpkin or gingerbread pancakes.
I’ve only been there a couple of times, but I can assure you that each of those things are out of this world. Take one bite of the delicious cinnamon roll pancakes – my favorite, I might add – and you’ll be transfixed into a pancake that is soaked up with warm ooey-gooey goodness that brightens even the rainiest of days. It tastes almost as if you’re biting into a cinnamon roll at the mall, if you’re looking for even more taste comparison.
While the pancakes still reign as my favorite, I have ventured out and tried other menu options as well. Since first coming to it in December, I’ve enjoyed the chocolate chip waffle, the Oreo pancakes, as well. And, each and every one of those did not disappoint.
And, the cherry on top? Every item is reasonably priced. I know that sometimes when you go to brunch places, they can be very pricey. Not here. The Cinnamon roll pancakes are a whopping $4.75 – and that’s for three pancakes! What a deal!
Overall, if you’re looking for a brunch place in New Haven, the Pantry is your place to go whether it may be for bae or for your parents. Just be sure to go to an ATM beforehand – it’s cash only.
