BabyCenter has revealed their list for the top names of 2015! They determined their list based on the 340,000 names of children of registered parents to their site. Jackson and Sophia hold onto their number one spots for consecutive years.
But what is more fun to analyze are the unusual names that have gained popularity over the last year. Those that are “trendy”.
Inspired by Instagram filters is now a thing. The names Lux, Ludwig, Amaro, Reyes, Hudson, and Kelvin have gained popularity amongst boys. While for the girls, Instagram filters like Valencia, Juno, and Willow are trending.
The television show Empire has impacted baby naming too. Character names like Lucious, Lyon, Hakeem, and Dre have all become popular again.
Naming your baby a “royal” name is now trending as well. Names like King, Royalty, Duchess, Reign, Princess, and Tiara have all become more widespread. Apparently just naming them “William” or “Catherine” like actual royalty is too boring.
Gender neutral baby names continue to rise in popularity. Girls being named Maxwell, Lincoln, Wyatt increased significantly while the use of Karter, Piper, and Carson continued trending for boys.
