There’s no hiding the fact that over the years the annual PGA Tour event known as the Travelers Championship which rolls through Connecticut ever year has always lacked some real star power. There are always one or two somewhat popular names but for the most part Cromwell, CT hasn’t been a big priority for a lot of golf’s superstars.
Until this year.
The Travelers has managed to lock down three of the world’s top ranked golfers this year. Rory McIlroy, Jason Day, and just confirmed yesterday… Jordan Spieth!
Last year the Travelers was held in August since the entire PGA Tour schedule was thrown off by golf being in the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio. For 2017 the tournament returns to its normal June week (June 19-25) putting it back to earlier in the season when players are still trying to rack up key FedEx Cup points. Hence why more golfers are interested in competing at TPC River Highlands this year.
As a huge golf fan I absolutely can’t wait to watch golf’s elite rip it up on the grounds of TPC River Highlands. Remember, last year Jim Furyk at 46 years old made history when he shot a 58 on this course. The lowest PGA Tour score ever. Just imagine the show that McIlroy, Day and Spieth are going to put on.

Even if you are just a casual golf fan, or maybe not a golf fan at all, the Travelers is always a fun time. I’d go as far as to say that it’s a “must experience” Connecticut event. If there was ever a year for you to check it out it would be this year. In addition to the jam packed player field there is always live music, awesome food, and plenty of fun stuff for your kids to do. The outdoor day drinking is off the charts great too.
See you on the first tee.
