So, if you haven’t heard; Connecticut makes the best pizza in America. There’s absolutely no contest. If you say otherwise, I need you to leave because we can’t be friends. Plus, it’s pretty much confirmed in practically every publication known to mankind that Connecticut is the pizza capital of America.
Not surprising anyone; Frank Pepe’s Pizzeria dominated the list again in 2017. Also, their white clam pizza (otherwise known as THE BEST pizza known to mankind) sparkled and shine as this year’s top pick. Mmmm, how can you not love butter, garlic, clams, and white sauce drizzled lovingly over a thin crust pie?
That’s perfection, my friend. The pinnacle of pizza excellence. Top of the graduating class and valedictorian of taste. Even Daily Meal agrees:
“This is a Northeastern pizza genre unto its own, and Pepe’s is the best of all — freshly shucked, briny littleneck clams, an intense dose of garlic, olive oil, oregano, and grated Parmigiano-Reggiano atop a charcoal-colored crust.”
I seriously could eat an entire white clam pie right here, right now. By myself.
Also, coming in third this year is another New Haven staple: Modern Apizza. Their Italian Bomb pie scored them the coveted bronze medal this year. And they sincerely deserve it for their expertly thin crunchy crust and mouth-watering concoctions. Plus, a pie topped with bacon, sausage, pepperoni, garlic, mushroom, onion, and pepper is sure to be nothing short of divine.
