The year is 1968, and Led Zeppelin is on their very first U.S. tour – they are the opening act for Spirit and Vanilla Fudge – but that won’t last very long…
It would take them another 8 months before they made their way to Connecticut – August 17, 1969 at the Oakdale in Wallingford – and by then they were the headliners.
Unfortunately, there isn’t a surviving live recording of that performance…but there is one that happened on this date in 1968, in Spokane, Washington at Gonzaga University. In fact, it’s the earliest live recording ever of Led Zeppelin in the United States:
