After two straight weeks of Marvel dominating the movie game with Captain America, the competition heats up with Johnny Depp’s latest, Transcendence. Transcendence looks super creepy and I imagine it is no mistake that it is being released right around the same time as Google Glass.
It’s all connected and Google is SkyNet. If you are wondering what SkyNet is, then don’t go see Transcendence, stay home and watch the Terminator movies first. Then see Transcendence, then de-friend everyone on Facebook, delete Twitter, unplug everything and get off the grid.
What’s it About: Dr. Will Caster is an artificial intelligence researcher who strives to create a machine that possesses sentience and collective intelligence. Caster wants to become part of the new technology, but his wife Evelyn and his best friend Max Waters, also researchers, question the wisdom behind this. When his mind is uploaded into a computer to try and save his life, Caster’s goal to acquire knowledge becomes one to acquire power, and he seems to be unstoppable.
Should You See It: Based just on the trailer and the description I would say that this is 100% a wait for cable movie, but considering the cast, I could be way off. Johnny Depp, Morgan Freeman, Rebecca Hall, Kate Mara, and Paul Bettany are pretty legit actors. Sure they’ve all been in less than stellar movies… but all at the same time? Seems unlikely. I’m on to you Transcendence. Could be a sneaky good movie. First option for sure if you’ve already seen Captain America.
