Not so great news for the college kids…
All 17 State colleges have overwhelmingly approved raising their tuition. State university students will see a 5% hike, almost $500, while community college students will see a 3.5% increase, about $140, on their bill.
Unfortunately, this won’t even begin to cover the crunch the system faces. The New Haven Register says it’s been hit with $26 million in budget cuts.
President of the Connecticut State Colleges and Universities Mark Ojakian announced that he won’t balance the budget on the back of the students. However, he felt the tuition hike was fair considering the financial burden the system faces.
Apply for them scholarships, kids!
