Wallingford is a quaint town known as the home of Choate Rosemary Hall, Neil’s Donuts and the Oakdale. It is unique in that it has its own electricity supply. No need for one of the big corporations to power your home in Wallingford, you get your juice right from the town at a price lower than most of the state. However, when it comes time to pay the electric bill you have to deliver your payment to Town Hall in person or mail it in. No online pay for Wallingford. In fact, you can’t even email anyone at Town Hall! I am pretty sure there is no voicemail either.
These facts have some residents rightfully worked up and they asked Wallingford Mayor William Dickinson what the deal is. Please enjoy the exchange below:
Are you serious?! This Luddite is running Wallingford?!
Full disclosure, I am a Wallingford resident so I am too close to the subject to be objective. But come on! Anyone with an ounce of common sense knows that EVERYTHING is done online and with email in 2015. And his argument against it is the old “If everyone jumped off a bridge would you?” And this clown is running for his 17th term!
I know why this guy gets elected every time. It is because the Q-Tips turn out every election and vote for what they know and the rest of us are either too busy (not a good excuse) or too lazy/jaded to bother (a worse excuse). We only have ourselves to blame for letting this loon keep us from sweet, sweet online bill pay.
This is not an endorsement of Dickinson’s opponent as much as it is an anti-endorsement of Dickinson. With that said, the opinion expressed are mine alone and do not reflect those of CTBoom, its editorial staff, management, ownership or anyone loosely affiliated with them. This is all me. I just can’t get over the fact that a municipality does not have, and does not want, digital communication and payment capabilities in the year 2015.
