We’ve all been there: It’s late at night. We’re fast asleep. We’re dreaming about some nonsense when all of a sudden the floor drops out from under us. We’re falling and there’s no way to stop it. We’re doomed.
When it happens, some of us wake up in a cold sweat. Some of us are so startled we fall off the bed. And some of us take a few minutes to even realize that it was all just a nightmare.
Well, if you’ve ever wondered what it would be like if it wasn’t just a nightmare, you’re about to find out. Thankfully, this skydiver makes it out unscathed, but for the better part of this harrowing 90 second video, the skydiver’s safety isn’t so clear.
You can see his first chute get tangled. That shouldn’t be a big deal – skydivers pack reserve parachutes for just this situation. But for whatever reason, when he pulled that chute it quickly got tangled, too.
I’ve never gone skydiving. I don’t know what it’s like when your parachute gets twisted like that. But based on how out of control this skydiver seemed and how fast everything was spinning, it doesn’t seem easy to remain calm, let alone regain control of the situation.
But I suppose this is why you do a lot of training and tandem jumps before you can go on your own. You need to keep a cool head if you want to survive. And somehow, this skydiver pulled it off. The spinning slowed and, by the end of it, it looked like he was basically in control.
So the next time you have the classic falling nightmare, just remember: If you keep a cool head and try to regain control of the situation, you might just make it out unscathed. Or just remember that it’s a dream, none of it’s real, and be super thankful that you didn’t have to deal with the situation this skydiver just dealt with.
