If you want to wear flip flops to work in Greenwich, I’ve got some bad news… that’s not happening.

According to the Stamford Advocate, municipal employees in the town are banned, as of June 1st from wearing slide sandals or flip-flops to work.

Mary Pepe, director of human resources in Greenwich, says that this was not made in response to a specific incident, but to create safer conditions and avoid accidents that can result in injuries, absences and workers’ compensation claims.

Now, here’s where we get in the nitty gritty of what is a flip flop or a sandal. Anything with a closed back or anything that wraps around the ankle is acceptable, and if you have a life guarding, swim instructors, or staff at summer camps run by the town, you’re okay!

Tripping hazard or not, banning flip flops might be the situation of the summer.
