The beloved star of many a children’s book, Winnie the Pooh, is many things.
– Honey Fiend
– Naive and slow-witted
– Friendly and thoughtful
But is ol’ Pooh Bear a freaky hermaphrodite, too?
Well, despite the fact that it almost sounds like it’d be the brunt of a joke about the very people who live there, Poland has banned Winnie the Pooh for their kids, because of his “dubious sexuality” and “inappropriate” dress.
Oh, it’s true.
According to the Croatian Times, this all started when the much-loved animated bear was being discussed at a local council meeting to decide which famous character should become the face of the playground area in the small town of Tuszyn.
Resident and councillor Ryszard Cichy apparently believes this about the honey junkie:
“The problem with that bear is it doesn’t have a complete wardrobe. It is half naked which is wholly inappropriate for children.”
Another unnamed official apparently knows why:
“It doesn’t wear underpants because it doesn’t have a sex. It’s a hermaphrodite.”
And perhaps best (and craziest) of them all, Hanna Jachimska, apparently blames Winnie’s creator, Alan Alexander Milne for the bear’s freaky nature:
“This is very disturbing but can you imagine! The author was over 60 and cut his [Pooh’s] testicles off with a razor blade because he had a problem with his identity.”
Apparently, the jokes and stereotypes exist for a reason.
